How To Unjam Laundry Machine Slot

  1. Slide-operated coin mechanisms are used for a number of coin based services, from newspaper racks to coin-operated laundry machines. These devices have vertical slots into which coins are put (typically quarters) that are set in width to match the width of specific coins; some can also take tokens that are shaped like.
  2. In addition, Murphy's Law states the machine will jam at the least opportune time (like just before a party). Based on all the calls and email that I get regarding jammed slot machines, I thought it might be useful to produce some videos on how to unjam some of the more common styles of antique slot machines.

I have an Indesit IWME127 integrated washing machine that’s only just over two years old. The drum became very stiff to turn, and makes a loud metallic scraping noise when you try to do so by hand. I have watched various videos on this and it seems that, in order of probability, it could be: (a) a foreign object physically jamming the drum.

Has your washing machine stopped working? Don’t be in a hurry to get upset. For starters, let’s see if the drum is spinning at all?

  • If, in washing mode, the drum rotates normally but does not work while wringing, read the article“What to do if the washing machine stops wringing the laundry”.
  • If the drum is not spinning in any of the modes, but you can spin it with your hand without any extra effort, your case is described in the article “The washing machine is not spinning the drum“.
  • If you can’t move the drum, even with your hand, or if it’s scrolling with obvious force – most likely, the drum is jammed. Why this could happen, we’ll tell you in this article.

The main reasons why the washing machine drum does not rotate

Most often, the drum is clinched if something physically interferes with the free rotation. It can be either a defective part or a foreign object.

MalfunctionBreakage

Drive belt comes off

The drive belt has left the usual position and comes off the pulley. This is most often due to incorrect loading of the machine with linen, stretching of the belt itself or bearing failure. A dropped belt may be wrapped around a pulley or be between the pulley and the drum. Either way, it “deliberately” blocks rotation.

Depending on the cause of the malfunction, the drive belt and/or bearing must be replaced.

Bearing malfunction

A rusty bearing has stuck, or it’s collapsed altogether.
During operation of the washing machine, the gland that protects the bearing from moisture, loses elasticity and starts to let air and water through. This occurs most often if machine cleaners are abused. Soapy water seeps in and starts a corrosion process on the internal parts.
If the washing machine is active, the bearing will almost always be moist. But when the bearing is idle for 3-5 days in a room with low humidity, it will dry out. When the washing machine is started, the dry rust will work like a sandpaper and the bearing is most likely to become jammed.
If destruction has begun, but the machine has not dried out completely, the rust bearing may last for some time: The drum will not wedge, but an unusual iron rust and noise will likely appear. The use of such a machine is strongly discouraged! If the bearing cracks during operation, not only will it jam the drum, but it can also cause serious damage to the “inside” of the washing machine!

The bearing and packing must be replaced.

Foreign objects

There was a foreign object between the drum and the tank. This is most often the case with small objects during the spin cycle: they can “fit” between the drum and the rubber cuff of the hatch. A foreign body can jam the drum, disable a bearing or TAN.
To avoid such situations, we recommend that you always check the contents of your pockets before washing, and small items such as children’s socks or handkerchiefs should be washed in special mesh bags with zippers.

A foreign object must be removed.

In a washing machine with vertical loading, the sashes opened.

When washing or wringing the sashes of the washing machine tank opened. In this case, the sashes cling to the Heater and the drum clinches the “intentional”. Most often, such trouble occurs if the washing machine was overloaded or some piece of clothing caught between the latch and the sash.

It is necessary to disassemble the machine, and, in the most “hard” cases – the replacement of the drum.

Whatever the reason, if the drum does not spin – please do not try to start the washing machine forcibly. This can cause even more serious damage to the machine. Do not panic, call a repair technician at ️(800) 657-0765

How To Unjam Laundry Machine Slot

Our technician will come as soon as possible, conduct free diagnostics and give the exact reason why the drum is jammed. Repair will not take more than an hour or two, after which you will be able to return to the usual rhythm of life with a fully working washing machine.

To avoid repeated incidents, please follow the washing machine manufacturer’s recommendations:

  • Do not overload the machine with too much laundry.
  • Distribute the laundry evenly over the drum.
  • Always check your pockets before washing: garbage and small items do not fit in the washing machine.
  • Wash small items in special bags.
  • Follow the recommendations for the amount of detergent and decalcifying agents on your machine.
  • If the machine starts behaving unusually, the drum of the washing machine squeaks or is completely stationary – contact a workshop immediately! Remember that using a defective washing machine can result in more serious and therefore more expensive breakdowns.

Cleaning the detergent dispenser drawer

Wipe out the detergent dispenser drawer with a damp cloth. Clean it regularly, especially if you use fabric softener. To remove the drawer, pull it open, push down on the tab in the fabric softener compartment and pull out. Rinse it out under warm water and replace.

Cleaning the inside of your washer

It is important that you regularly clean the inside of your machine using the ‘Drum Clean’ cycle. After 100 cycles icon will flash every time you turn your washer on to remind you to do this. If your washer starts to smell this is a sign that you should complete a ‘Drum Clean’ cycle. We recommend that you do not have any items in the washer when you run this cycle.

'Drum Clean' cycle

Cleaning steps

  1. Add approximately 2 full scoops of a good quality powdered detergent directly into the main wash detergent compartment of the dispenser drawer (marked or 2 ) or use a drum cleaning product specifically designed for front loading washing machines (follow manufacturer’s instructions).

  2. Press ‘POWER’ to turn your machine on and select the ‘Drum Clean’ cycle.

  3. Touch to start the cycle (refer to the ‘Wash cycles’ section).

How To Unjam A Disposal

Cleaning the drum and the door

  • Use a soft damp cloth to wipe the door, cleaning any water marks or residue off it.
  • Wipe the rubber seal around the door. Remove any items or lint accumulating in the bottom of the seal catchment and wipe out any water accumulated here. If this is not cleaned out, unpleasant odours will develop.
  • If the drum has any residual dirt or lint stuck to it, remove this and wipe the drum clean. Do not leave any metal objects in the drum as these may rust and cause staining.
  • WH8560F and WH8060F models also have a self cleaning door flush that directs a portion of the rinse water over the door during various stages of the cycle to help to clean hair and insolubles from the inside of the door and surrounding parts. We still recommend that you manually clean it with a soft cloth periodically as per the instructions above.

Cleaning the pump filter

The pump has a filter to trap foreign objects that enter the washer along with clothing. The pump filter can be accessed from the front of the washer.

To clean the filter:

This should be cleaned out approximately once a month.

Drain residual water

How To Unjam Laundry Machine Slot Machines

  1. Turn the power off and unplug the machine.
  2. Use a coin to open the filter cover. Place the edge of the coin into the slot and tilt upwards whilst levering the cover open.
  3. Unhook the pump outlet hose and pull it out (about 150mm). Remove the plug and allow any water (approximately 250ml) to drain into a shallow dish.
  4. After the draining process is complete, replace the plug into the hose and refit the hose back into the housing.
  5. Remove the filter by turning anti-clockwise. Clean and rinse under a tap. Check the pump filter cavity for any further obstruction.
  6. Replace the filter by turning clockwise until the white mark on the filter is in line with the white line on the pump housing.

Cleaning the hose(s)

Each hose has a filter in it, preventing any solid contaminants in the water entering your washing machine. Occasionally you should disconnect the water inlet hose(s) where they connect to the tap(s), check these for any build up of dirt and wash this out.

Nappy sanitisers/bleach

Nappy sanitisers and bleach are very corrosive to metal surfaces. DO NOT tip the contents of a nappy bucket into your machine. Rinse and wring items out thoroughly before placing them in the machine.

Moving your washer

If you need to move your washer a considerable distance (eg moving house), remember to replace the transit bolts before moving it. These will protect internal components of the washer from damage.

How To Unjam Laundry Machine Slots

To replace the transit bolts, pull out the bolt-hole covers in the back of the machine. Push the transit bolt rubber grommets and plastic spaces into the hole left and tighten it with the spanner provided with the product.

Make sure any water in the washer is drained out. This can be done by cleaning out the pump filter (refer to ‘Cleaning the pump filter’).

How To Unjam Your Finger

  • Leave the door to your washer open when it is not in use to allow the washer to dry out, otherwise it will develop unpleasant odours. When leaving the door open like this, it is extremely important that children and pets are kept away from the washer so they cannot be accidentally trapped inside it.

  • Aside from the detergent dispenser, water hose(s), and the pump filter, no other parts are designed to be removed from the machine for cleaning. Do not attempt to remove any other part of the machine.
